What kind of pellets can I make with my pellet mill?

 So now that you have your pellet mill or pellet press, what kind of pellets can your new pellet mill make?
 The pellets you make depend on the machine you have. There are different  flat die pellet mills and ring die pellet mills. We will focus on the flat die as this is the most common, least investment and easiest to use at home or small business.

If you have a mill with rollers that turn over top of a stationary die, you most likely have a wood pellet mill. You can get this in a diesel pellet mill, electric pellet mill and even a PTO pellet mill for your tractor.This should be geared lower(approx. 100-150 RPM). With the wood pellet press, you can make pretty much all materials that you would want to pelletize into pellets. This would include sawdust, wood chips(1/4" or less is best), cardboard, newspaper, leaves, grass, soy  plant, corn stalk, switch grass, hay, alfalfa, manure and so much more. It makes harder materials such as wood chips or saw dust into pellets much quicker and less effort than a feed mill. It will of course make soft and feed material into pellets easily as well. Because it is geared lower than the feed pellet mill, it will be a little lower of an output for feed material. If you want to be able to process wood or all kinds of materials, this is the best choice.

If you have a pellet mill with stationary rollers and a die that turns underneath the rollers, you most likely have a feed pellet mill. You can get this type in diesel, electric or PTO. There is also a gas powered pellet mill. This is only available in a small pellet mill. This type of pellet press is usually geared high and turns at a much faster pace(up to 400 RPM). This is great for soft and feed material. It gets softer and feed material done quickly because it is geared high. It will most likely process wood material but at a much slower rate than the wood pellet mill.
